Cambridgeshire Cup Called Off
The weather caused major problems with the MOBBS Memorial Tournament last Sunday. They will now be replayed on Sunday, the last available date, as the final will be at Bedford Blues 2nd March. The U13s match in the quarter final of the East Midlands Plate was also a victim. There was some good news, as the result was decided on a coin toss and St Neots won and are through to the semi final on Sunday. This will be against Long Buckby at St Neots kick off 11am. Good luck to all our teams, in particular the U13s.

Sunday's Fixtures
This week-end the Minis are in the MOBBS competition, with the U11s hosting the U11 age group. The U13s are replaying the East Midlands Plate game with Peterborough. The previous match ended as a draw and level on tries and following discussions with East Midlands and the coaches, it has now been agreed to replay the game at St Neots on Sunday, with an 11am kick off. The right decision all round. As you may now be aware the U14s have now been disbanded due to a lack of players, a sad day all round. Finally the U15s have an away fixture at Hitchin.

Back to Normal Sunday Rugby
Following the visit last week of the great and good from RFU HQ, it's back to normal this week-end. Francis Barron and his colleagues enjoyed the time with us and were impressed with the set up and the Mini & Junior Section as a whole. They found it a worthwhile exercise to listen to views and it was good in raising the profile of the club. On Sunday the U13s play at Stockwood Park in the Plate Competition, if they win they will be at home to Peterborough on 7th February, so a real incentive for the lads. Everyone else is training on Sunday.

Your Club need you!!!
Dear All As you may be aware St.Neots Rugby Club is being encouraged by the East Midlands RFU to apply for RFU Whole Club Seal of Approval. The Senior club is now actioning this and St.Neots could be the first to gain RFU Whole Club Seal of Approval in the East Midlands early next year. One of the benefits of gaining Whole Club Seal of Apporval is that St.Neots would then qualify for large grants from the RFU to upgrade facilties at the club. The current proposals include moving the first team pitch in front of the club house, proper flood lighting, refurbishment of the changing rooms and toilets and improvements to the main club house. Although RFU would provide 60% of the funding we do need to raise some funds ourselves. We therefore propose to hold a sponsors lunch on Saturday 28th November at the club and to include watching the 1st team play afterwards. Please could you all ask your parents if they know of anybody they know who would sponsor the Club. Obviosuly we are only interested in people who are serious about sponsoring the club and are willing to make a commitment on the 28th November. Please can you let me know asap. Kind regards Richard Thomas

34th Festival of Rugby a Fantastic Success
Hi all I just wanted to drop you all a line to thank you for all your help and hard work in pulling off yet another fantastic festival. Over 900 children attended yesterday and the feedback I had from all the clubs was extremely positive. 5 clubs made a specific point of telling me that it was the best event they had been to this year. We also got fantastic feedback from the Mayor, Andrew Hansard and our MP Jonathon Djanogly. I know that everyone played their part in making it a successful event, but I would like on behalf of all of us to pay particular thanks to a few people: Ray Lynsey, who took up the mantle of Festival Chair in January and managed to pull everything together in only a few months; Chris Howe, who not only managed getting all the other clubs to the festival, but was a real support to Ray; Stuart Williams, who was not supposed to be doing much this year, but was amazing all day helping ensure everything went smoothly; Christine, Debs, Charlotte, the Scouts and the Round Table for sorting all the catering arrangements; Steve Gibson and Colin Arber for coordinating all the playing and coaching issues Chris Picton, Jamie Swanston and Mark Thody for their support. I know I have probably missed many others, and for that I apologise. Once again, on behalf of the whole committee thanks for all your hard work. St Neots Rugby Club Hosts Schools Tag Tournament
Dear All A huge and many thanks for all of your help and support yesterday. Without you yesterday's event wouldn't have gone forward. Every child walked away from the club with smiles on their faces. Some of the feedback is a testament to you and your time you gave for this event. I look forward to next year's tournament being even more popular! Thank you all so much ! Jennifer Sothmann, Senior Competition Manager for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Tag Rugby Over 200 pupils turned out to take part in local Tag Rugby Tournaments held over two days. The tournaments, organised by the Hunts School Sports Partnership and Competition Manager was open to all Year 5 and 6 pupils across the partnership. St Ives Rugby Club hosted the first tournament, on 25 February. Event organisers had a bit of luck with good weather conditions on the day, after on the original event on 11 February was cancelled due to blustery snowy conditions. Rugby coaches from St Ives Rugby Club and Huntingdon District Council Leisure Development Team supported the day by officiating the event. Ten young leaders from St Ivo School supported the event by time keeping, scoring and assisting teams, proved to be a real testament to their school. The pool stages of the tournament saw teams from Bury Primary, Brampton Village Primary, Westfield Junior and Thorndown Junior schools come out on top. Very exciting semi finals ensued to which Bury and Brampton went through to the finals. A nail biting final was played out on centre pitch, with Bury eventually winning. Both Bury and Brampton teams will now go on to represent the Hunts School Sports Partnership at the end of the month in the county finals at St Neots. St Neots rugby club were host to the second of the two Hunts Partnership rounds on 4 March. The sun was shining, lighting the faces of over 100 pupils, staff and volunteers. The first part of the afternoon, was a chance for Young Leaders from Longsands College and volunteers from the club to deliver a coaching session to the schools to enable them to brush up and fine tune their skills before commencing the tournament. After this fantastic session, teams moved around to allocated pitches to begin tournament play. Fairplay and sportsmanship were in abundance throughout the pool stages of the tournament and continued into the finals. Teams from Little Paxton Primary, Folksworth Primary, Cromwell Park Primary and Overhills Primary were all represented in the semi finals. Folksworth and Cromwell Park were to meet in the final. St Neots rugby club volunteers officiated the breath taking final, which saw the Folksworth side sneak by as the victors. Final score: Folksworth 6 tries, Cromwell Park 5 tries. Folksworth and Cromwell Park join Brampton and Bury to represent Hunts SSP in the county finals. Event organiser, Jennifer Sothmann, Competition Manager for Hunts SSP stated, “This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity for these young people. Many of them would have never had any experience like this before. It’s been a brilliant two days with smiles everywhere, and our gracious hosts have been superb.” For more details contact: Jennifer Sothmann, Senior Competition Manager for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, jas@hinchbk.cambs.sch.uk
